NASA – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA is situated in the United States. The agency is responsible for Science and Technology related to space exploration and aeronautics research. No doubt it deserves to stand in the first position. It was established in October 1958 and has been involved in high profile space programs since then. Currently, NASA is engaged in a number of missions that study climate changes, Freshwater resources, the mystery behind the development of the Sun, and life on other planets, and the list is never-ending.

Since its establishment, most US space exploration efforts have been led by NASA, including the Apollo Moon landing mission, the Skylab space station, and space shuttle. RFSA – Russian Federal Space Agency

RFSA also is known as Roscosmos is one of the ISS or the International Space Station. It is one of the leading agencies actively engaged in the development of space vehicles, launchers, and ground-based infrastructures. The agency was founded prior to NASA in 1922. It performs numerous civilian activities including monitoring Earth and the astronaut program and coordinates with the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation for military launches.

As the main successor to the Soviet space program, Roscosmos’ legacy includes the World’s first satellite, human spaceflight, and the first space station.


ESA – European Space Agency

ESA is one of the best in launching vehicles for space orbits, viz. SPICA, Comet interceptor, EarthCARE, Solar orbiter, sentinel-5, etc. It was established in 1957 initiating with only 10 members states on board which is now 22.  ESA works for the launch and operation of unscrewed exploration missions to other planets and the Moon, earth observation, science and telecommunication, designing & launching vehicles, and maintaining a major spaceport.

This agency is also collaborating with NASA to manufacture the Orion Spacecraft service module. ESA is responsible for setting a unified space and related industrial policies recommending space objectives to the member states and integrating national programs like satellite development.


ISRO – Indian Space Research Organisation

The ISRO became the first Asian Space to reach the orbit of Mars in the very first attempt. Its vision is to “Harness Space Technology for National Development” while pursuing space science research & planetary exploration. ISRO was set up in 1962 urged by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai understanding the need in Space research. ISRO built India’s first satellite Aryabhatta. Rohini became the first satellite to be placed in orbit by an Indian-made launch vehicle.

ISRO has established two major space systems, INSAT for communication, television broadcasting and meteorological services, and IRS for monitoring resources and management. ISRO is heading in developing technology for deep space communication, navigation, mission planning. Towards scientific progression, it relies on the exploration of surfaces of planets, morphology, mineralogy by indigenous scientific instruments.


CNSA – China National Space Administration

CNSA is currently involved in the deployment of satellites for telecommunications and Earth observations. It has been 50 splendid years since China embarked on the road to develop its space industry, starting in 1956. It has made eye-catching achievements and ranks among the world’s most advanced countries in some important fields of space technology. While supporting all activities that utilize outer space for peaceful purposes, China actively explores and uses outer space and continuously makes new contributions to the development of man’s space programs. JAXA – Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency was established in 2003. Its main work is to look at technological development, research work, and launch of satellites into orbits, moon research, asteroid data, and many other space types of research. It is also responsible for observing rainfall and carbon dioxide monitoring. Its further missions are development and operation in Space, Utilizing space through satellites, research on space science, research on Aeronautical technology, etc.

JAXA uses the H-IIA rocket to launch engineering test satellites, weather satellites, etc. for missions like X-ray astronomy. It has experimented in the upper atmosphere using the SS-520, S-520 & S-310 rockets


SSI – Space Studies Institute in California
